Having lived in Tokyo, I’ve worked with people from all over the world in a Japanese company context which is a recipe for bizarreness worthy of a Dilbert Cartoon.
I remember asking my non-Japanese boss if I could take time off for the Christmas holidays as I hadn’t been home for the holidays for the previous five years.
He said, “I haven’t been home for Christmas in over ten years!”
I replied, ”But you’re from Turkey and Muslim. It’s not the same.”
I’m Spring Day (real name, hippie parents)
Moving back to the United States after having lived in Japan and traveling the world for 16 years has been a bit of a head fuck, especially since I now work in the U.K. My blog “The United States of Shock!” is where I give my brilliant and bitter two cents, pence, yen and euro on my experience with culture shock and current events.
