DVD rental stores are still around in Japan in a big way. If you ever get the chance to go to Japan you should check them out. It's the only place in the world you can find a copy of “Anne of Green Gables” right next to a copy of “Anne Does Green Gables”.
And no matter how brief or unrelated to the story it is, if there is a nude or sex scene in the movie, that's what's on the DVD jacket uncensored. Guess what's on the cover Brokeback Mountain? You know, the story about two gay cowboys? You guessed it: Anne Hathaway's tits!
They change the name of movies too.
Remember that movie, "To Kill A Mocking Bird”? The movie about a black man wrongly accused of attacking a white woman when it was really her father who strangled her? Guess what the title is in Japanese?

Moving back to the United States after having lived in Japan and traveling the world for 16 years has been a bit of a head fuck, especially since I now work in the U.K. My blog “The United States of Shock!” is where I give my brilliant and bitter two cents, pence, yen and euro on my experience with culture shock and current events.
