The Monday Club and the Museum of Comedy

Hello fellow information grazers in search of sustenance,

The UK is going through a record breaking heatwave every few weeks this summer and we are swamp ass deep in one that has turned our London cats into semi-permanent decorative door draught excluders that look like they've been cast willy nilly on the floor and are always in the way... That said, the cats would be in the way that even if there wasn't a heat wave, it's in their job description as professional cats. I've been working on some new material at the JK comedy club which has shows all over London including in a corner at the Rialto Casino in Leicester Square. I've never been in a casino in London before and was pleasantly surprised. They waft a fragrance throughout the grand casino but my nose is not trained enough to know what exactly the scent is…extra clean carpet smell maybe?...all I know is that it's a pleasant smell that is so strong it's nearly impossible to smell anything else and since the casino is in a high ceiling structure that's not air conditioned in the high ceiling parts  and that some gamblers there look like they haven't left for a few days, it's probably best that way.

There were a few well-travelled Midwestern Americans on vacation in the audience from the suburbs of Chicago and it made me proud to perform for them. They were a lovely couple that I imagine just wandered out of a magnificent house fit to feature in a John Hughes movie and decided on a whim to "go get some culture in Europe before they run all out…oh and we should swing by Trader Joes or Wegman's for travel snacks on the way to the airport while we're at it…"

On Monday, I will be performing at the Monday Club at the Museum of Comedy. It is one of my favourite places to work on new material leading up to the Edinburgh Fringe in August. Everyone  gets 5 minutes and performs on stage in an old crypt. It feels like an appropriate place for some premature jokes to die… It's an early show that starts at 7:00pm, ends at 9:00 and it's a nice place to hang out even if you're not a goth. The audiences there are friendly and know that a car crash of a joke is inevitably going to be occasionally  in the cards, but they like seeing the acts pick them selves up, dust themselves off and move on to the next joke. There is something comforting about that…

Anyway, I'll be doing the show there this Monday and your invited. There will be loads of other  very funny and talented comedians there working on new stuff and you're bound to love them. Plus, crypts are cool in every sense of the word, including temperature…
